Jordanian officials have reacted angrily to Al Jazeera claims its 2010 FIFA World Cup coverage was jammed from inside the country. A government source "categorically denied" the accusation, calling it "absolutely baseless and unacceptable."
"The government is ready to cooperate with any team of independent experts to examine the facts," the source told Jordan's state-run Petra News Agency, "and is certain that any such examination will prove these allegations false."
Qatar-based Al Jazeera had made the claim following research by "teams of independent international technology experts," investigating broadcast interruptions which angered subscription viewers of the World Cup across the Middle East .
Al Jazeera and Jordan have endured a tense relationship. The broadcaster's Amman HQ was shut down in 1998 following allegations Jordan conspired with Israel against Palestine. Jordan has also frequently accused Al Jazeera of excessive criticism of its ruler King Abdullah.
