DTT STB national manufacturing moves forward in Venezuela
The DTT STB prototype design that researchers from the National Telecommunications Research and Development Center are preparing has already started the first three stages of the seven stages assigned to the project. The first phase is related to the design conceptual framework, the second one has been assigned to the draw-up and execution of human resources training and the third one is related to the purchase of equipment for its development. Venezuela will start to deploy DTT as from 2011.
According to the aforementioned center's web page, a fourth stage includes circuit design; the fifth stage includes the creation of administration software; the sixth stage has been assigned to the prototype construction (assembling of what is designed in the fourth stage) and the seventh stage will include functioning verification and testing. At present, the 30% of the first stage has already been completed in preliminary studies that evaluate technical features of the STBs, as well as capacities, functions, interfaces, operation, among others, developed by Japan and Brazil with their ISDB-T standard.
Moreover, local and international norms that will regulate the construction of the Venezuelan STB and will be adapted to such country's environment and needs are being studied. According to Gerson Castellanos, researcher of the IT Communications Unit, the analysis also includes the development of such devices in countries that have already adopted the Japanese standard, such as Brazil and Argentina.
The 30% of the second phase has been completed with a defined program that has been sent to Japan for its effective technological transference pursuant to agreements executed with Brazil and Japan in October 200. The third phase is in its negotiation process with international providers and is related to the necessary infrastructure upgrading, which includes physical space, equipment and software so as to carry out the design, simulation, manufacturing and operation of such devices pursuant to quality and environmental norms.
