Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s Parliament, plans to launch an independent TV channel
The new channel is an initiative of Hamid Ansari, chairman of Rajya Sabha and will broadcast proceedings from the upper house starting from this winter’s session. Ansari’s OSD Gurdeep Singh Sappal has reportedly been appointed CEO of the new channel, which will eventually broadcast 24 hours a day.
Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s Parliament, plans to launch an independent TV channel to cover its proceedings from 7 November, when the house is expected to sit again
The channel comes four years after a similar move saw independent broadcasts commence from the lower house of parliament. Doordarshan Lok Sabha was then replaced by Lok Sabha TV, a 24 hour channel which broadcasts in Hindi and English.
The Rajya Sabha proceedings are currently broadcast by a Doordarshan channel.
