The HD channels of Germany’s two largest commercial TV groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 have expanded their reach to other cable operators.
Deutsche Netzmarketing Gesellschaft, which represents around 140 cable companies, has signed a framework agreement with Eutelsat’s German direct-to-cable platform KabelKiosk through which it can obtain carriage rights for the channels.
In addition to RTL HD, Sat.1 HD, ProSieben HD, VOX HD and kabel eins HD, KabelKiosk’s “BasisHD“ packages contains 39 German commercial TV channels in standard-definition.
“We are happy about the signature of the carriage contract which will further accelerate digitalisation of cable networks,” Martina Rutenbeck, managing director of Eutelsat visAvision, said in Cologne. “With a combination of attractive HD content, strong marketing partners and first-class service, Eutelsat’s KabelKiosk will remain an important guarantor for the successful migration of cable to digital TV.”
