Argentina will launch new DTT channels
The Argentine Radio and TV President, Trist?n Bauer, informed that the Government will offer 16 channels for the four frequencies assigned to such agency for DTT - 22, 23, 24 and 25. On 28th October and between March and April 2011, a movie channel and a science channel will be launched respectively. The offer also includes three news channels, a sport and a music channel. Channel 7 and Encuentro and the children channel Paka Paka are already being broadcasted.
The movie channel will offer Argentine and Latin American productions. The objective is to face the American material offer. "The 85% of movies broadcasted in movie theaters come from the United States, whereas only the 15% is distributed between European and Latin American movies", the executive explained. Likewise, he pointed out that the new channel will form part of the digital TV systems of the "seven countries that chose ISDB-T standard in South America". In the region, in addition to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador and Venezuela have adopted the aforementioned standard.
On the other hand, the science channel will offer a 70% national material and a 30% international content. "National universities will have great participation in such content structuring". In this context, Bauer highlighted the Argentine potentiality "as the new federal production factory". "We are very well aware that TV is in charge of entertaining. And we will not move from that idea", he concluded.
