The technology and software company TOTVS presented its StickerCenter, a digital TV platform for STBs with Astro TV middleware, a Ginga implementation developed by the company. The proposal offers a series of so-called Stickers widgets with entertainment and related-companies' electronic commerce options.
Predetermined Stickers are transmitted and updated through associated broadcasting companies' TV channels. Moreover, new applications - if the user has an Internet connection device - can be acquired in the so-called StickerShop store. In virtue of this project, the company closed agreements in Brazil with Banco do Brasil, Extra supermarket, the free-to-air TV channel Band, UOL portal, Climatempo site (with weather forecast) and Walmart chain.
"At present, we are in our promotion and implementation process, but in the future, other companies will be added", Carlos Maiztegui, TOTVS Cone South General Director told NexTV Latam. Applications that will participate in the proposal can be developed both in NCL-Lua and Java languages. Maiztegui pointed out that how the business model would work in the rest of Latin America still remained unknown. In Brazil, Astro TV middleware is fitted in LG and Sony TV sets, though such devices have not been fitted with StickerCenter yet.
"With Banco do Brasil's application, for example, the same as an Internet user can be done", the executive commented. "In order to mount this over a digital TV platform, it is necessary to move with security, something that Java technology incorporates, since it enables encrypted elements". But, NCL LUA "has been thought for content applications rather than business ones", he pointed out.
The whole technology platform developed by TOTVS is inscribed within ByYou brand. In June, TOTVS announced the acquisition of the 45% of TQTVD capital stock, thus becoming the owner of the 100% of such company. TQTVD resulted from the association between TOTVS and the software development company Quality.
