TivùSat, the Italian free-to-air digital satellite service, currently has 1.4 million smartcards distributed and the platform’s backers have set a target of surpassing two million over the coming few years, according to public broadcaster Rai’s digital-terrestrial broadcasting chief Luca Balestrieri.
Balestrieri said that the satellite offering was intended to complement the country’s DTT offering by extending its reach. Liguria, Calabria and Molese have seen the highest levels of take-up
Balestrieri said that Tivù also planned to develop a connected TV platform and had recently signed an agreement with DRM consortium Intertrust/Marlin to test services.
