The Ecuadorian operator TV Cable started to offer HD in the cities of Quito and Guayaquil. The service has been commercially available since November 1st and includes 11 basic channels for USD 11 and a Premium offer at an initial USD 2 cost. As NexTV Latam had disclosed in advance, in virtue of such initiative, the company chose Pace's STBs with Motorola's CAS.
According to what Jorge Schawrtz, TV Cable president, told NexTV Latam, the basic plan is made up by ESPN, FOX Sports, Rush HD, Space, Golden, MGM, Concert Channel, MTV, Discovery, TLC and TruTV; whereas, the Premium service offers only one channel (Moviecity). The operator has already started offering triple play in those two cities and others like Cuenca, where the HD platform might arrive soon.
One of the company's objectives is to digitalize 10 new cities, a process that will be carried out gradually as from 2011. TV Cable is the main Ecuadorian operator. According to data as of September 30th recorded by the Telecommunications Superintendence of such country, as of such period closing, the company recorded 137,000 subscribers.
