Central and eastern European broadcaster Central Media Enterprises is launching a spinoff of its female skewing Acasa TV channel in Romania.
The broadcaster is launching Acasa Gold to target women between 15 and 49 with a raft of soap operas and general entertainment series.
Romania’s National Audiovisual Commission (CNA) approved the licence and the channel will launch later this year.
CME already operates a number of channels in the country including Pro TV, Pro TV International, Acasa, Pro Cinema, Sport.ro, MTV Romania, as well as Pro TV Chisinau in the Republic of Moldova.
“Even though they represent 54% of the urban population in Romania, women have only one TV channel where soap operas predominate. Under these circumstances, a TV station that would broadcast these hugely popular shows became necessary. Especially as this market is expanding,” said Vanessa Cernea, executive director of Acasa and Acasa TV.
