Canal Digital is officially launching a new HD PVR with software that runs on a Linux platform. The hybrid technology will enable the Scandinavian pay-TV platform to offer customers a new broadband-delivered movie rental service that will compete with rival Viasat, which has made a significant start in the area.
At the same time Canal Digital is introducing an improved electronic programme guide, with Series Link recording, and a simplified menu structure.
The software is being launched for satellite customers in Denmark, Norway and Sweden tomorrow (Wednesday), while Finnish customers will have to wait until later in the month.
VOD service Canal Digital Go will launch with approximately 500 films from SF Anytime. It is anticipated that this will build to 2,000 titles later in the autumn.
