Sony Pictures Television will form a Dubai-based production company to serve its growing Arabic-language footprint.
The company, which supplies programming to broadcasters in 22 Arabic-speaking countries and operates 30 pay-TV channels across EMEA, said SPT Arabia will be headquartered in Dubai, with production offices in Cairo and Beirut.
SPT Arabia will be led by local executives Ziad Kebbi and Dany Karam, who together founded prodco Elements TV, which has produced formats such as The Celebrity Farm, Deal or No Deal and Take it or Leave it for the Arabic market.
The formation of SPT Arabia is the latest development in the growth of SPT's international production business. In July, SPT announced the formation of Brazilian prodco Floresta, headed by Elisabetta Zenatti, formerly at TV network Bandeirantes.
SPT international production president Kees Abrahams said: "The Arabic-speaking countries represent an exciting market for SPT with a growing appetite for high-quality, scripted and non-scripted content."
