ESPN2 will give viewers a free taste of its ad hoc college football scoring service on Oct. 30.
This Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (ET), ESPN will present a preview simulcast of ESPN Goal LIne, which showcases live cut-ins and highlights from top college pigskin games from around the country, as well as commentary. ESPNEWS anchor Anish Shroff hosts Goal Line's day-long coverage -- typically from noon until around 11:30 p.m. -- with college football game and studio analyst Rod Gilmore.
Goal Line's national promotion will be bookended on ESPN2 by its coverage of Purdue at Illinois at noon and the 6 p.m. kickoff of top-rated Auburn visiting Ole Miss at 6 p.m.
ESPN launched its version of pro football's Red Zone on DirecTV and NFL Network's NFL Red Zone on Sept. 4 with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, as part of Disney/ESPN's comprehensive carriage pact with the nation's No. 2 cable operator (Time Warner Cable negotiates programming deals for Bright House.) Since then, Goal Line rolled out on Verizon FiOS on Oct. 9
ESPN plans to debut a similar service called Buzzer Beater in time for the college basketball season. The aforementioned affiliates are on that distribution roster as well.
ESPN executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing Sean Bratches, in a recent interview, said the sports programmer was talking with other distributors relative to Goal Line and Buzzer Beater.
