Over the period to August this year, Samsung managed to sell well over 1m 3D enabled LED TVs. NPD forecasts 3.4 million 3D TVs to be shipped in 2010.
NPD Group's Retail Tracking Service also revealed that Americans have spent over $55 million on 3D-ready TVs and Blu-ray players in the first three months following product launches in February.
Once again, Samsung has demonstrated the importance of early entry into a sector of the TV market. As the first manufacturer to mass market LED TVs in 2009, Samsung quickly developed a dominant position.
Despite the best efforts of rival manufacturers, Samsung retains around a 50% market share of LED TV sales.
While early market entry is definitely keeping Samsung ahead of the game, their strategy is matched by constant innovation. At the recent CEATEC electronics show in Japan for example, they are demonstrating TVs compatible with the WIMAX broadband wireless standard
