The French online video portal Dailymotion has renewed its contract with the French audiovisual institute INA giving it access to a further 50,000 videos from the institute’s archive.
The two companies have been working together since 2007 with Dailymotion using INA’s content protection system Signature. The new contract covers all French newscasts from 1971 till 2008, which also remain available from the INA website.
The agreement also includes short form programming as well as clips from long form programmes. Dailymotion will share advertising revenue with INA from advertisements around the archive’s content. According to a spokesperson for INA, the distribution agreement is meant to increase visibility of their archive.
In a related development, Dailymotion said its US business continues its strong growth as traffic goes from 7.5 million unique visitors in September 2009 to 15 million unique visitors in September 2010, according to figures from comScore.
Dailymotion said its network of sites attract over 72 million unique monthly visitors worldwide.
