Sony TV is pulling out of the Spain’s free-to-air DTT market to become a pay-TV channel from the end of this month, widening Sony’s pay-TV offer in the country with three pay TV channels available: AXN, Animax and now Sony TV.
“We’ve had second thoughts in our strategy and we have decided that the most appropriate is committing ourselves to pay TV, pulling out of free (market) which is more complicated and is not our natural environment,” explained Juan Maria Romeu, General Director of Sony Networks in Spain.
Sony TV will be revamped with new content targeted at a very familiar audience. According to its executives, it will be quite similar to Sony TV in Latin America.
Sony TV will also incorporate HDTV with the launch of its HD transmissions over the next few weeks.
