RTVC launched its Digital TV web microsite
Radio y TV Nacional de Colombia (RTVC) launched a microsite with information about DTT. The objective was to develop a space "exclusively about digital TV in Colombia and the world", as Ana Le?n, RTVC web general producer told NexTV Latam. The initiative relies on the technical area of such entity's and the National TV Commission's support. At present, in such country, only the 50% of the capital city of Bogot? has digital TV coverage. According to Ana Le?n, in 2011, 42 broadcasting stations will be set up.
"RTVC had always had DTT information, but it was too little and it was found in its main site", Le?n explained. The microsite offers information about changes that will take place with the arrival of DTT, the selected standard (DVB-T), differences with analog TV, the possibility to interact and necessary STBs for channel reception, among others. According to the site, DTT STBs will start to be sold "once operators have the suitable coverage and the demand for such devices is strengthened".
Moreover, users can have access to a virtual map to see the advances in such country's coverage. Additionally, the so-called "DTT wiki" tool is available for further information. Users can enter the portal through RTVC's web page (www.rtvc.org.co).
In Colombia, DTT project will be developed in three stages, one per year. According to Le?n, as from 2011, the first stage foresees the installation of 42 broadcasting stations that will cover the 85% of the country. Likewise, the Government will start its bid in search for a provider for its DTH, which will complement coverage. RTVC's main function is to program, produce and broadcast public national TV channels: Se?al Colombia, Canal Institucional and Canal 1 (only broadcasting), in addition to public national radio broadcasting stations (Radio Nacional de Colombia and Radi?nica).
